Signal Strength

This option will change the graphical cellular strength indicator into an RSSI indicator (useful if you're trying to avoid asking "Can you hear me now?". RSSI (received signal strength indication) is the standard metric used by the telecommunications industry to measure power in a received radio signal (measured in decibels, dB). The closer the number is to zero, the better your reception, so -80 is a stronger signal than -90.

The dB range for signal RSSI is -47 to -130 with -47 indicating the strongest signal.

Carrier

Other options that allow you to further customize your carrier icon include Custom Carrier text and using the carrier as your time format.

Data/Wifi

This option will change the graphical wifi/data strength indicator into an RSSI indicator (useful if you're trying to avoid asking "Can you hear me now?". RSSI (received signal strength indication) is the standard metric used by the telecommunications industry to measure power in a received radio signal (measured in decibels, dB). The closer the number is to zero, the better your reception, so -80 is a stronger signal than -90.

The dB range for WiFi/Data RSSI is 0 to -100 with 0 indicating the strongest possible signal.

Assigning Activator Actions

Protean gives you the ability to trigger an activator action by simply tapping one of the system icons. In our example we are going to assign the tweak BatteryPeek to the Battery system icon.

The first step is to select the Battery icon, which takes us to the screen below. Here we have the option to have tapping the system icon (the battery in our case) perform an activator action.

Selecting the "Activator Action" option will bring up the list of activator actions that you have installed. Once you have selected an action you only need to go back to the main System Icons page for your new Tap Action to take effect.

Theming System Icons

Protean also gives you the ability to theme certain system icons. Unfortunately, due to some icons having multiple states, not all system icons can be themed via Protean. Icons that can be themed will show have an "Icon" section below "Tap Action" where you can select a replacement icon.

In the event that a system icon cannot be themed you will see the below message instead of the "Icons" section.
